His nephew Amanjot Singh Ghuman told reporters in Jalandhar that the actor suffered a heart attack in the hospital in the evening.

Professional bodybuilder and actor Varinder Singh Ghuman passed away on Thursday after suffering a heart attack, according to his family.

Ghuman’s manager, Yadvinder Singh, shared that the actor had been experiencing shoulder pain and had gone to a private hospital in Amritsar for treatment. His nephew, Amanjot Singh Ghuman, later confirmed that the actor suffered a heart attack in the evening while in the hospital.

At the age of 41, Ghuman was well-known for his work alongside Bollywood superstar Salman Khan in the 2023 film Tiger-3, and for his roles in movies like Roar: Tigers of Sundarbans (2014) and Marjaavan (2019). He had also appeared in the Punjabi film Kabaddi Once Again (2012).

Standing at 6 feet 2 inches, Ghuman was a prominent figure in the fitness world. He won the Mr. India title in 2009 and secured second place at the Mr. Asia competition. A native of Gurdaspur, Ghuman was based in Jalandhar, where he also owned a gym. Renowned as a “vegetarian bodybuilder,” he was passionate about fitness and frequently shared his workout routines on Instagram.

In addition to his bodybuilding career, Ghuman had expressed interest in running for the Punjab assembly in 2027.

Politicians from across party lines mourned his passing. Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu referred to Ghuman as the “pride of Punjab” and described his death as an “irreparable loss for the country.” He praised Ghuman for setting new standards in fitness and living a vegetarian lifestyle, adding that his life would continue to inspire youth.

Congress MP and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa also expressed his condolences, calling Ghuman’s death heartbreaking. He acknowledged Ghuman’s contributions in bringing glory to Punjab through his hard work, discipline, and talent. “May Waheguru grant eternal peace to his soul and give strength to his family during this time of loss,” Randhawa wrote on social media.

Congress MLA Pargat Singh shared his sorrow, remembering Ghuman for his discipline and devotion to bodybuilding. “May Waheguru grant eternal peace to his soul and give strength to his family,” he added.

Shiromani Akali Dal Chief Sukhbir Singh Badal also expressed deep sadness, calling Ghuman an inspiration to the youth for his hard work and remarkable achievements in the world of bodybuilding.
